A difficult aspect to control in LED production is colour. In a production of three thousand warm white LEDs, many LEDs will differ in colour shades. The cause of this problem cannot yet be determined, but the difference in colour is quite significant. It can be disturbing if this difference is visible when a number of LEDs is installed close to each other.
Lumotech has found a way to turn this problem in a point of advantage. This method is called “sub binning”. In short, according to this method, every colour (in the example below cool white) is divided into four main shades (WG, WH, WD and WJ). These four shades will then be divided into nine sub shades (A-I). By means of an automatic measurement each LED gets a colour code that represents the exact colour shade. By using this method, customers will always have consistent colours for their LEDs, also in case of repeat orders.
